Feedstock

Feedstock, ABS Plastic

Feedstock is the raw material that is used in 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, to create a finished product. Examples of feedstock are ABS plastic filament, PLA plastic filament, powder, UV-cured resin, polyamide nylon, and many other materials.

Researchers are working to create new materials in 3D printing, such as bioprinting, using the patient’s own cells, powders and oils to create food, and other more traditional materials such as ceramic, gold and other precious metals, and biodegradable filaments such as seaweed.

Users can also use recycled plastic filament using the Lyman Filament Extruder or similar machines.
