PolyJet printing is a 3D printing technology developed by Objet Geometries. PolyJet printing uses liquid photopolymers that are exposed to Ultraviolet (UV) light, which then hardens the 3D part.
How PolyJet Printing Works
First, the user creates a 3D model using 3D modeling software and saves it as an STL file. The STL file is sent to the printer’s interfacing software that slices the digital model into layers and determines how the layers will be printed. Then layers of liquid photopolymer materials are deposited onto the print bed one layer at a time. Once each layer is deposited, the material is exposed to UV light, which hardens the layer. Another layer of liquid photopolymer material is deposited and exposed to UV light. Gel-like support material is printed and surrounds the part to hold the layers in place. This process repeats until the 3D model is complete.
History of PolyJet Printing
Objet Geometries Ltd. was founded in 1998 and is based in Rehovot, Israel. Objet Geometries patented PolyJet Printing and merged with Stratasys in 2012. The Objet series uses PolyJet printing techniques to create 3D printed parts.
