August 28th, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his celebrated “I Have a Dream” speech, a revolutionary and inspiring speech that still sends chills up and down our spines when we hear it. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia where he became active in the civil rights movement. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa Parks refused to move for a white passenger and he became the greatest leader of the civil rights movement.
Some of the highlights of Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream” speech include:
“In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”
“We must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”
“No, no we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
